Maybe she got Buddy's temper. Don't ever ride on a bus with her.

Because he was playing at a Buddy themed event that she hadn't licensed. She called him a karaoke drummer.

While Steve isn't exactly my personal favourite, this karaoke drumming stuff doesn't sound half bad to me.

I feel Steve Smith has a much more tangible respect for Buddy than she does, I am sorry to say.

Yeah.

Narcissism and entitlement among people who belong to a group and themselves have no skills or understanding of what it takes would very much related to the stuff I sometimes talk about. It does a lot of harm, not just to those individuals, but to all who cold benefit if that wasn't the issue. That's why it's such a serious matter.

Of course. Most of the big name drummers in that generation, after Ringo opened their eyes to drumming, Buddy was their hero.

Some friends of mine played with Dave at the BR tribute at Ronnie Scott's late last year, they said that Gregg was just a horrible man to be around. Apparently Cathy was taking the piss about how his timekeeping was so poor.

Yeah. That's really the first time I heard Gregg play, based my comment on and why I said just skip ahead when I shared this in the Dave thread. Night and day. Horrible night.

Jazz sensibility?

Yah. Not so much.

Not sure what is going on with that whole thing...wow, odd dynamics. So wrapped up in it they can't see what others see. People gotta make a living, I guess. Smith a karaoke drummer? That's bonkers.

The comments...brutal.

A palate cleanser.

Along with the musicality discussion, Buddy repeated a lot of phrases in his solos, as well as his comping. Since he used dynamics, and mixed them up a little, they don't sound like exercises.

Great recording here.
