...The BUDDY RICH Thread

Postby Pocketplayer » Mon Dec 04, 2017 7:40 pm

Cannot believe we haven't started this before...

A different listen...

Buddy Bio

It is hard not to get into "technique talk" with Buddy rather than
focus on music, which almost takes a back seat with this musician and artist.
So, it will come up...for me, as a matched grip player, I am interested in his
RIGHT hand. When he goes into crazy speed mode, his grip seems to tighten,
especially if he is moving from full strokes. The video when he plays timpani
displays these full strokes (arching strokes really).

Whenever I need some inspiration, this clip is one of the things I turn to, he has a lot of power and fire here. And that snare is ridiculous.

He makes a mistake around 6:23, and you can see from his face how much that pissed him off. He's deep inside his head.

He sounds very Bonham-esque, or Bonhan sounds very Rich-esque.

Those Buddy tapes were the inspiration for Seinfeld
episode with Kenny Bania, The Opposite, and
Frank Costanza...Buddy should have got some cash!

This thread took a weird intro turn to mistakes and the
Buddy tapes...now back to the maestro in action!

SOMETHING IS WRONG HERE:

2017 came and went with very little fanfare
to celebrate this genius, his music and contribution
to jazz music. 1917 -- 1987.

What happened to the 100th year celebration
since Buddy's birth?

I don't really mind the Buddy Rich passion. I can see where his reaction would be kind of natural.

The Buddy Rich band are doing soething, but well, I don't really think Gregg is the right drummer to do that gig justice. Sounds like a rock drummer in the wrong band.

Dig this when he gets the BD going around 3.30.

This one is just nuts.
