Discovered this link mainly due to the controversy og their booth getting shut down, but this kit sounds cool.

Shut down? Due to noise?

Yah.

Could be due to price, though.

At least Vinnie's drum is still blue, but I'm undecided if that's a good thing.

Just listened to the Bill Detamore "I"d Hit That" Podcast where he talks about boycotting NAMM this year because, in his words, it's "obsolete", and how he booked a studio nearby in order to conduct business in an orderly fashion in peace and quiet. Really interesting perspective.

From a business perspective I'd agree. It's really just a hang. Considering how the internet works today and how things are done, though I'm not in that business, I'd say this is my perspective as well.

I went to the Messe i Frankfurt once and really, once was enough.

Best part was the Dean girls, a nice dinner and a water pipe.

I think that fits Detamore's personality. Peace & quiet...
its a few days a year!

NAMM is NETWORKING and NAMM is HANG...it is where musicians
can meet up in one place once a year and shoot the shit, it is also
where us fanboys can gather. Where else can a guy like me hang
with Vinnie, Bisonette, JR Robininson, Arnoff, Abe Jr in ONE day?
Then the next day run into Jonathan Moffit standing alone in a
$1500 suit and talk the 1984 MJ Thriller Tour? The stories
are endless really if you're not shy...I see Steve Smith, Jojo
or the late great Jim Chapin at his pad and I am part of that
hang for a time. From a business POV, I was w/Roland for
years and the CFO was my friend...it's a big deal and they
pay huge bucks for their monster space.

It's not just drums, its guitar and bass and piano and...
I go with a piano buddy, he hits his floor, I hit mine,
and a few times there was a HOD hang years ago!

Downfall back in the day (it might have changed) was the
noise police guys w/their little devices walking the floor
harassing the smaller dealers, which imo comes down to
a few guys w/power issues...most of the time it was just lame
considering the crowd dug it. I get telling the 14yo kids wailing
on a kit, but not some guy doing a demo that exceeeds the max
decibel limit.

NAMM is much more than the show floor and all the exhibits. There are many seminars with loads of information and advice for retailers. They get to meet retailers from around the world and compare strategies and results. Plus being able to meet the people behind the companies in ONE place is invaluable for building relationships.

NAMM is def a great place for business, for my friend (and great pocket drummer) Ramy Antoun president at A&F Drum, NAMM has been VERY successful, really !!!

Well said PocketPlayer and Paul.

Sure the "hey days" are gone like the music business anyway, I can see it myself from the 1st time I came down there end of the 90s, it was down town near the Staples Center, but it still remain a great place for making great connection, business, and the hang of course. :-)
