Sad to hear of his passing. He was a big influence in my younger years. Got to see the very last Rush show at the LA Forum.

This is continuing to echo days later. What an amazing person.

first time i ever really heard Neil was on A Work in Progress where he deconstructs
after his Freddie experience. Whoa...THIS is a rock drummer? I thought he was a
English/literary professor...so well read and articulate...JUST like his compositional
drumming...then as i listened to this video he played EVERY song from the new LP
w/ and w/o music then explained his thinking...I heard ideas like; a stream of water flowing
so I played this and other natural revelations that sparked creative flow...Neil was a shy
literate man that was at times misunderstood...i think he might not have grasped
his massive influence as the drummer in RUSH that propelled him to idol status...
i really believe Neil never wanted that...his suffering in this life was also shocking
losing his wife and daughter within a year of each other...when I think of ALL the
shows RUSH played over the world...ALL the audience members who gazed at his
strokes and listened to his lyrics...a life well lived is an understatement!
Thoughts out to his family and this huge loss to both Geddy and Alex...thier brother
for over 40 years is gone...i can't think of a band who was together this long and
had almost no ill will towards one another...reading many band biographies they
read like dysfunctional families...RUSH seemed to have a brotherhood unlike
any other group...a respect for one another unparalleled making this band even
more impressive!

At the end of the Signals tour in July of 1983, they had played 1,025 shows together.

That is mind-boggling, and remarkable. Neil gets dumped on, but I do't know many who could have done that and kept it together.

Then they continued...

Feels like I lost a close uncle who was silently guiding me throughout adolescence and beyond, teaching me philosophy, thinking and drums. Hit me pretty hard, have to accept that it's life, but it just sucks. Perhaps he left journals that will get published sometime. it must have been unimaginably devastating to be hit with brain cancer after all the years he used his brain so powerfully. Tragic that it happened right after they retired, he may have even had it when they were touring. Life can so cruel.

I was in the 7th grade when I got invited to a 'drummer hang'. My older brother's friend played drums and he invited me over after school. He introduced me to Rush and Neil Peart by playing the All the World's A Stage drum solo. It was mind-blowing. What an amazing body of work we've been blessed with. Thanks Neil.

Saw them many times. First show was Hemispheres....Black/Chrome Slingerlands....right up front. Been a fan since they started
