I saw these guys the Friday of the week Neil passed on. I had been remarking to Rush nerd friends, some I hadn't spoken to in a while, that I missed Rush and having a Rush tour to look forward to, no longer need to ponder that. Strange synchronicity. I realized listening to Rush about as much as I used to this past week on Sirius that Neil's life and philosophy had a greater impact on my own life than his drumming. He lived a helluva life, gave reassurance to so many that they were ok, and it was ok to not be like everyone else, to fight. I'm still an outsider.

They were pretty good, I like the nod towards the early 80s vibe, with the videos from the 83 tour. Great setlist too. When the music got a little complex, it was a bit less-than-clean and the bars got weird, but the energy was there, and the sound. He has a rotating drum riser with an electronic kit on the back, nice touch. They were to go to Detroit the next night, but I'm thinking ticket pre-sales were not good, I got comps for this show in Grand Rapids.

It was a surreal evening. Drove home in a blinding rain/snow storm.

Dig the Jacobs Ladder. They did a great job.

Last album / tour with the double bass live. Loved this tour. They always sound great.

Must have watched this live concert over 200 times. Neil was always a hard hitter.

For all the NFL fans out there. The national broadcasts for big games they always played RUSH songs. They have been playing RUSH music for decades bumper to commercialsGr. The weekend Neil died every game they played RUSH tunes. Grammy's Neil was the 6th person they showed... with sound of him playing a solo.

I'm working on a video discussing Neil and why he was significant. We'll see if I can finish it...

The passing of Neil sparked this performance.

That'd be awesome to see, Steve.

I was flying into YYZ the day the news broke. Pretty wild.

From the official Rush site. It doesn't help figuring out WTH Neil was talking about however. LOL.

Neil is on fire at this show, great recording. His solo is towards the end and he just goes off.

I had that bootleg on CD WAY back - worse quality though.

I'm still working on a Neil video essay type thing. It's basically me on camera talking about Neil and overlaying pictures, video clips and audio examples of what made him special. Currently it's 20 minutes long. It's taking a while to do but i want to do it right and I think it's worth it in the long run.
