WEEKEND CHATTY: SURPRISE NEW GEAR EDITION!!!!!!!

Postby Morgenthaler » Fri Jan 31, 2020 9:11 am

Many of you know that I was close to checking out permanently due to a cholecystectomy (gallbladder removal) that went horribly wrong on October 10th of last year. I am still very much in a rebuilding phase and I have struggled with insecurity and physical fatigue (lack of red blood cells + lack of muscle mass is a bitch) since then, even when working out with a personal physiotherapist since early December.

Things are getting better every day - and my workplace has been absolutely fantastic in giving me the space and the time I need to s-l-o-w-l-y get back into shape.

ANYWAY...

*Someone* thought I could need a bit of cheering up, by me being able to set up both my jazz kit and my rock kit with full
cymbal setups at the same time, so I can basically turn my throne 180 degrees and shift from a jazz to a rock environment when practicing.

That someone is - of course - someone you would associate me with if you know me and my history on this forum. Please let it stay within this forum.

So, earlier this week, I got a notification that a package was on its way to me... and THIS is what I pulled from the heavy package just a few hours ago.

I CAN'T WAIT to set everything up! (pics of that to come in the near future)

I would LOVE to hear you, sir, play this Artisan ride. It's everything we want from a ride. It is alive. It is dark. It is music, personified.

If you are ever in Copenhagen, let me know.

Thank you langmick (et al)!

Here's a gritty livingroom demo with my phone mic being obviously way too close to the cymbals, which I am just holding in one hand, but perhaps it gives you a general idea of at least how the two rides differ in nature. The Artisan is loud, warm, with a multitude of sonic layers and the Fierce is dusty dry with less body to it:

Speaking of gear, it just occurred to me that I haven't brought my stick bag to a gig in like a year I think. I just throw my all my stuff into the bottom of my cymbal case. Sticks, brushes, hh clutch, felts, washers, drum key. Stick bags... a useless cash grab, or a necessary piece of equipment? And what's up with Big Fat Snare Drum heads? All you gotta do is take a boxcutter to an old head to cut off the hoop and voila! All that and Andy Rooney tonight on 60 minutes.
