Thirty Years of Ten Summoners Tales

Postby bored at work » Sat Feb 25, 2023 5:39 am

I can't believe this incredible, pioneering album came out 30 years ago this year. It's one of my favourites. It spawned such great songs as Seven Days that we spent so long scratching our heads about. People are still making YT videos to this day explaining how that song is played.
These are my favourites.

This album and Mercury Falling I find to be phenomenal pop albums top to bottom with masterful and sophisticated songwriting and musicianship, while still generally accessible to the lay person. They work on all levels of listening. I have sampled bits of other Sting albums here and there but my impression has been that they are not on the same level, more mainstream pop-like and less interesting. Am I missing out on any others?

Funny, as GREAT as are these gems, I was thinking this week that Nik Kershaw's "The Work" could be my favorite over Sting's ones with Vinnie.
I come from Tain, Vinnie, Omar, Jeff, Fish, Stewart, and many more...

Jeez,I remember where I was when I learned about this, and how the next record wasn't quite as good. Digging in deep to being a drummer then, but still VC was out of reach.

Those SNL appearances were amazing.

Great record, but I prefer the music on Soul Cages.

Well, for me Sting's music with Omar is just untouchable !!!

Then "Nothing Like The Sun" with Manu, just awesome, then "Ten Summoners..." and "Mercury Falling", I stopped there even if I like some 2/3 songs on "Brand New Day".

I like "Soul Cages", dark stuff, but great atmosphere, and then the Live with Don Vincenzo, DAMN !!! :o

Some of the tracks off of TDOTBT, NLTS, and The Soul Cages resonate more with me today, but Ten Summoners Tales was a marvel when it was released.

Love is stronger than justice is still my fav.
