yea to me it sounds like elvin did it when playing uptempo ,but he put all the rights on his ride and instead of the bass drum he used his hi hat

Natural progression from right hand leading ride pattern?

Gotta love the Elvin

Loved that fill Cliff did though...

Greatest. HoD. Post. Ever. Full of honesty and humility. I love it.

And I'm not just saying that because I've had 3 pints of Kilt Lifter.

Wait ... isn't this weekend chatty?

Those are Taye Originals.... and a snare from a local builder in Toronto "Groove Factor" made from lake superior birch...

Hah- you're being way too self-deprecating. First, I think I have actually experimented with the paradiddle way briefly but found it difficult because I was SO used to the LL way. So it's probably also a matter of habit. I think both have two slightly different but equally cool sounding things to offer.

Also, I'd put the Gadd Ratamacue thing in a totally different category because I'm still trying to get that to sound smooth.

Second, your playing sounded great, and I found it amusing when you said you prefer it slower, because when you did it at hyper speed I was like "actually, that sounds sick" haha.

Nice Chris!
A classic lick well explained, well executed and good sounding!

I also like to play it as a little variation inside a ghosted half-time shuffle groove; or as a cheat fast version of it.

Sticking: RLRRLB

Orchestration:
HshhsB SshhsB
B
(hat+kick on downbeat; right hand on backbeat)

Key:
H: Accented hi-hat
h: Ghosted hi-hat
S: Accented snare
s: Ghosted snare
B: Bass-drum

Does that makes sense?
