This is a great article. A must read for, well, all drummers! No matter what style of drumming you like or dont like, no one can argue with success....and JR has that. Longevity and survival in not so drummer friendly era of recording. This guy lays it down and usually when he does....its heard by all!

JR came up and introduced himself to ME at a gig I was playing at in a small club years ago. He just came up to me and started asking about my drums and stuff, and then stuck out his hand for a shake and said "My name is John Robinson". I shook his hand as my jaw dropped. I had no idea it was him before he told me! Super nice guy, and he loves the drums. I tried to get him to sit in later on, but he was content to just listen unfortunately.

Super nice guy! I met him in Nashville and was too star struck to think of anything substantive to say.

Great interview. Read it last night. He really touches nicely on his approach to practicing time. Shockingly, it involves listening to yourself. I loved his answer about whether he was an advocate of using a metronome to improve time. He said he was not an advocate but didn't denounce it either. He proceeds to explain some things that helped him.

I just went to read the article and saw that MD used my Style & Analysis piece in conjunction. Yay!

JR is one of my heroes. I wrote that piece after seeing him do a clinic a while back at Interstate music.
I'll never forget that. He's a great guy as well. Got to hang a bit with him. Very funny and full of cool stories. Enjoy!!!

I LOVE JR, I even like the way he loves himself, but he does it very well, and he can be very proud of what he done in the music industry, his contribution is HUGE !!!.

JR has played on lots of great records. when i see him play solo stuff it just hurts to watch him play. thats not his thing. when i hear him on records i can't believe it's the same guy. he was very good on the grammys this year. he's got that loose as a goose feel but with machine like time. the tom scott tune keep this love alive you'd think it was a well programmed drum machine part. mike oldfield tubular bells 2 he plays some nice stuff. he's everywhere this guy.
