I always did prefer keeping a floor tom off to the left vs. another snare. I always liked the idea of the double floor toms (w/legs) that Vinnie likes to use as well. The suspended floors just don't have the punch that a floor w/legs has.

Suspended floor toms should have never ever happened. Makes no sense! Sound wise and physically. The person that invented them should have been fired and jailed for 20 decades.

... fwiw, Dave actually prefers the hanging toms so as to get the extra sustain. Except for with the Phoenix kits.

The idea behind using suspended "floor" toms is to get a more consistent tone/timbre from all of the drums. I used them for a while long ago, and the only reason I went back to traditional floor toms is for the extra support.

Game-Changing Moments.
Thanks Dave.

Sure Dave is OK if I post Steve Gadd´s Game-Changing moment here.
Chick Corea is mentioned in both videos.

Yeah....when I think of Jazz composition, complexity, technicality and simplicity, beauty and grace....I think of the so many things that Chick has done. And all the great drummers that have done it with him. I saw a gig at the Greek theater here w/the Electric band (Eyes of the Beholder) and was floored. The way the choreography was done as well as the music being played. When the music started, and Chick started his simple little solo after all except one ballerina left the stage, I was sitting in a paradise. The sun was just setting, the air temp was perfect, and I was listening to some of the best Jazz/Fusion that's ever been played. If I were ever at a caliber of Chicks playing and writing, I could see how being able to play with, or just be around the guy would be a game changer.

Have watched that Chick Corea concert many times. Love Scott Hendersons playing. All if those guys are monster soloists. The tune Silver Temple is killer. I saw them play that song around 2004 ish at Catalina's. Dave played the song with more fire. U figure it can't be played any better.
