I recorded this in 2008 (Lucas Ives in the backstage).
I lost the HD video, but the audio is good.

Ah just the perspective thanks!

Dave is so smooth, had to watch that a few times. I really dig on his double kick use, it's that perfect amount of tasty.

Yeah -- I don't use much double pedal in my playing, but have been having fun with one of his licks .. it's the one at 3'21" in the video above:

L-RR L-RR L-RR L-RR

... but with a 16th note triplet reference, i.e. the left foot marks the quarter note triplet (hands play unisons on top of the left foot).

Ah excellent, I thought that lick sounded familiar I use a similar concept in one of my bands tunes. The LRR on the feet can be a very powerful tool.

GOD LORD!!!!! :o :o :o

Seriously though- it's such a lesson to see Dave's hands from that angle. Man, just so fluid and flawless.

Anybody notice how springy his pedal was at the end of the tune?

Balanced. I've always set my pedals up and encourage students too in that manor, if you pull back on the pedal (or let it go from pushed down) it should have the maximum amount of free swing possible.

If the pedal is balanced on it self, then you know to play it it's all on you. No stiff spring to fight against and visa versa the pedal won't fight against you.
