This is the perfect combination for this killer performance: Agressive and tasteful Dave !!

And Dave salutes Nicko McBrain with his rack toms position :)

Here's something fun I hadn't seen before (sound quality notwithstanding) ... kind of an in-between old and new-style DW:

EDIT: this just popped up, too:

I was there for that! Erskoman headlined it.

I'd been playing for less than 2 years and it had a huge effect on me (the whole day, but Weckl in particular). Specifically it made me relax on the drums - I've always thought it ironic that Dave sort of had a reputation as being tight back then*, but I thought he was so fluid and light and relaxed, thereafter it made me almost literally lean back on the drum stool and just relax.

There are three specific instances of drumming that had a really big effect on the way I approach the drums and this was one of them (the other two being seeing Sting Live in Oslo on TV - and rewatching it a gajillion times obviously, and a gig where I saw a friend of mine play for the first time which impacted on how much fun I have playing live).

*Is that even true? It seems so unlikely now. But I'm sure I remember, pre-new-style Dave, he had that reputation...

I was there too, I came from France for seeing this.

It was the begining of the new DW indeed, more "muscular/rock", I told him during the diner and I think he was kind of happy with my compliment.

Neal Wilkinson kicked my ass that day, JR too, what a groove !!!

But Andy Gangadeen and Chuck Sabo, what for ? I don't know... :-)

Ah come on, Gangadeen was ace!

As a performer in today's industry I completely admire him. He took the drumming gig with the Spice Girls on the condition that the tour bus could tow his recording studio around with them. He spent 2 years making a lot of money and recording his ideas, then launched the Bays (his completely improvised dance music group). The Bays record all of their shows and give every single one away for free. I think all around, that's pretty cool...

In 1996, there were very few drummers playing live breakbeats and drum-&-bass stuff - he was doing interesting things, I thought. (And unlike Jojo, he stays within the genre. ;) )

Have to agree with Rodge. I watched his master class, broadcasted by the BBC. Honestly this must the most boring master class ever seen.

Ha, yeah that's not the most exciting thing he's done, I agree...
