It's funny how I can relate to the softer versions of these songs. I must be getting old.

It's funny, but it also exposes the essense of a melody and lyric.

We actually used to do this in ensemble class back at uni. You'd bring in sheet music for a song that we played pretty much as is and then we did it in a completely different style. :?

Thanks electrizer, not heard of him before but he's seriously good with a very fresh style. I just watched a few videos of him. I love the choice of music he plays to, very relaxing. His sense of timing is unreal and some very clever note placement going on.

Now, can you tell me how to count this. There's a couple of 6/8 bits I think, but the rest I haven't got a clue! :?

That Richard Spaven stuff is super hip. Be nice if they threw us a bone and show the click on the screen so we can follow the time or in this case who cares where the click is. Where is he getting this stuff. It's fresh and fun.

I could be wrong, but I am hearing the snare accent on beat 3 (4/4 time) - like a half time thing...

I hear the snare as being on the "and" of two.

Thanks guys. I wasn't hearing it as 4/4 before you mentioned it Terry, but yeah it is in 4. I thought it might have been some odd time bars. Actually guys, I've listened to it over and over and I believe I've got it. Bit long winded, sorry, I just found it interesting working it out :D At least, I've got the main theme. There's some other parts in the song that I don't know about. I think we can agree that from 1:40 to 2:11 is in 6/8. Paul, you're right about 'and' of 2 though there's more to it.

From the start of the song this is what I've got.

The sequence is:

Intro fill and two keyboard chords into:

Four bars of 4/4, (then 2 keyboard chords on beats 4, and 1 of next bar)
Four bars of 4/4 again, (then 2 keyboard chords on beats 4, and 1 of next bar)
Two bars of 4/4 and a bar of 3/4, (then 2 keyboard chords on beats 3, and 1 of next bar)
Two bars of 4/4 and a bar of 3/4 again. (then 2 keyboard chords on beats 3, and 1 of next bar)

Then cycle starts over.

And these are the snare hit placements on those bars:

12'+'34, 123'4', 1234, '1'234 (snare hits are between ' '. So, the 'and' of 2, the '4', the '1' )

12'+'34, 123'4', 1234, '1'234 (same again)

12'+'34, 123'4', 1'2'3 (snare hits are 'and' of 2 again, the '4', the '2'.)

12'+'34, 123'4', 1'2'3 (same again)

Later on he doesn't always hit the 2 of the 3/4 bar.
