I'm hearing it the same way - as almost a halftime shuffle with the kick/keys unison hits on the 'ah' of 1 & beat 2.
Spaven is unreal. Has done a lot of work with Jose James & Flying Lotus.

Mickey Curry still owns it. Same band from the 80's. Love these cats. And they can sing better than ever! This clip is like 2 years old.

Damn, those fills of his are cool as hell! I like how he throws a few flams in there, they add a nice texture, and the dynamics within the fill, with some fireworks. Mickey is the man, everything is where needs to be throughout the song, and the sound, perfect. YOOGE.
Mickey is my friggin hero. If I could play like anyone, I would pick him. You want to give the folks in the band that kinda strength while keeping some spice in there.
