A ladder because that's how you climb a ladder :).

Well I'm sure you all you guys are the exception!! Jojo Mayer's interview with drum department he talks about the same thing and he is of European origin. :) He also goes on to say Americans can't make fondue. Well I'd rather play jazz...:)

The solo Vinnie does on the Jeff Beck "Live at Ronnie Scott" DVD, there's a short phrase that sounds more like alternating flams between snare/bass than a true ladder -- Is he 'ladderering' in a strict sense or using the right foot only? He nails the sh*t out of it.
