Re: Youtube guy killing it over Jeff Richman tune
This youtube shit of people playing other people's music well is starting to get to me.
It misses the fundamental point of music... That someone came up with that shit on their own.
Dudes spend hours maybe weeks learning a piece to play it near perfectly on their channel... I don't see how this will really benefit them beyond the mastery of the techniques within the piece they learned.
Yeah transcription is the greatest tool to a musician, but working so you can ape some other dude's shit just doesn't seem to fit the bill of making music.
I mean making music is why we do this right? or do we do it to play sicker licks than anyone else?
This was a good exercise, but I can only see playing Jeff Richman shit in a real working situation as a means to not get called for the hit again... unless it's a Jeff Richman Tribute band.
I mean great work, but I will be convinced when I see an original track with original ideas that make me as happy as Jeff RIchman's ideas from this guy...

Yeah well, we can't all have some master fusion guitarrist composing music for us you know, besides this guy had his own input to the song, I can tell you that much.

The Urban Dictionary says >>>
Killing It:
performing at the highest level
So I didn't feel that he was "killing it"...it felt more like practicing to me.

Some of you have impossibly high standards for YouTube video. The guy's obviously a very good player and I had fun watching his stuff.
“Let's try some of my songs.” Dave Grohl, top sign drummer will be fired.

It really depends on if folks are available to play music, or maybe it's a student in school just in the shed and making videos of themselves, nothing wrong with it really. Thank god the internet wasn't around when I was younger. It would have been Rush covers on my double bass vestalite kit *shudders*.
