Clint Hopkins wrote:Full details, Juan! I want to know your thoughts on his tuning being up close and behind the kit.

Tonight I will have ready the FULL REVIEW & PICS.

Meanwhile Clint, you won´t find nothing about Simon´s tuning process in my review, because when I came back to the stage with my BD beaters, bass drums/snares and toms were already set. However, later he took MUCH time until he got the right sound of the BDs for the PA and for his monitors.

All I can say is that from my point (close to the set in some different points of the stage) and without mics sounds:

- The snare drums sounded SUPERB, pure Simon.
- The Bass drums sounded SUPERB, pure Simon.
- But the toms, eachone of the six ones, well...I was a little disappointed, compared to the sound we hear on his recordings.

At first listening you could say the toms didn´t sound well, but as Simon says here, YOU REALLY GOT TO KNOW WHAT A MICROPHONE LIKES.

Go to 1:20...

Excuses for the delay…but I put some time on it.
At the beginning I was only going to write a few words in this same topic, but I started writing and I could´t stop.
So I´ve posted the story on my website. At the end of the page, you can see the link for the pics.

This is the complete REVIEW & PICTURES about that day with Simon and the trio.
I hope you read it and like it.

you would think he's playing an arena rock show with the size of his kit, jeesh. I like Simon, I just feel he could say a ton more with less drums.

I really liked this group when I first heard about them, and I even saw them live and it was good. I wish there were more risks taken with the music. Feels too safe sometimes. And at times, it sounds as if it could be used as incidental music in a horrible Disney made for TV movie. I want risk and more 'grease' to it! At times, Its like the Four Freshmen doing James Brown. I'll stop now.
