the last Soundgarden album is great, almost progressive grunge imo. There are some really odd meters on that album.

Back in 1996 I attended a workshop with Zach Danziger in Remscheid (Germany) for a week. I remember that we (a couple of students and Zach) took a trip to Cologne (by the way...Zach was super nervous because he wasn't used
to the speed on the autobahn...he was biting off his fingernails in the back of the car).
During our short stay in Cologne I purchased the brand-new Soundgarden album "Down On The Upside". We played it in the car and rocket out >>> here's the first track of the album:

Later that day I played one-on-one basketball with Zach on a street court...good times.

matt ranks right up there with bonham as one of my favorite rock drummers of all time. i just love his muscular playing, the odd time stuff, and that heavy pocket. he plays with authority, without getting all agro.

i've seen the last several SG gigs since their big comeback at lollapalooza a few years ago. that gig was incredulous. i was 5 feet from the stage and fully engulfed in the experience. i agree that is where matt shines most. it's a very organic thing for those guys to be together.

they had a few not-so-stellar moments at smaller shows in the tri-state area, including one at jones beach, where cornell totally lost his cool and started yelling at the audience for not giving a shit. he was right, but then again, it was mostly a crowd of corporate douches and the show really wasn't well promoted. so he lost emotional and performance steam, and my man matt totally carried that show--belting out vocals and gave everything the undercurrent chris needed to get back on track.

love him. the wellwater conspiracy stuff...meh...but still good moments on that, too.

gaddabout, that's hilarious about killer tomato!
