his groove and beats are undeniable. I'm a little undecided about his solo stuff though. I can really do with out the stupid fast bass drum/snare/hihat reflex-type of solo. It doesn't do anything for me. it falls into a some sort of abstract expression that really doesn't say anything to me. But maybe I dont' get it. I'm not saying I'm better or that it's bullshit, just that it doesn't do anything for me. I tihnk HOD is great because, provided you follow the rules (disagree and say why), there's nothing wrong with criticism.

I just listened to this record on Spotify- super cool stuff, really hip and mellow.

It's also my first exposure to Chris Dave playing on a record and I really dig what he does in this context. It's like a mix of a Questlove vibe with hints of some of the "electronic" sound tricks Jojo does.

Instead, Adele headed west, to Malibu's Shangri La Studios, to work with producer Rick Rubin on her second disc, due out in September. "I was expecting it to be really difficult and that I would be quite scared the whole time, being in his company," she says. "But I've never been so chilled out in my life. Rick is the calmest person I've ever met. We would jam out a song for a while, and then see what we had."

She had support from a crack session band, including bassist Pino Palladino, keyboard player James Poyser, guitarists Matt Sweeney and Smokey Hormel, and drummer Chris Dave, who do a masterful job augmenting Adele's melodies without intruding on them. "It's such an honest record, and I'm really moved by it," she says. "It's not hidden behind anything, and even though that's what I wanted, I was a little bit scared of it. It makes me want to burst out crying whenever I hear it."

Love it.

Quote from a new interview with Questlove:

I wanted him to see how loved he really is, because he really doesn't get it. He seriously doesn't watch television. He's not on a computer at all. He's still listening to vinyl, cassettes and a Discman."

I think he gets it. it's how you sell an enigma. Prince knows it. Axl Rose knows it. I think a lot of artists do it. Is it eccentricity or just spin? a bit of both I think. Superb artist, just not into the PR spin ...
