Is this guy for real???

Postby Jeremy Smirnoff » Fri Aug 12, 2011 5:35 am

This, by far, has to be the most ridiculous kit I have EVER seen. And the explanation for why he plays it is even more... baffling.

And no, I don't want one like this. Not jealous in the SLIGHTEST. :D

What's even more entertaining is the fact that he uses Pearl DEMON Drive pedals. How ironic.

I bet he drives a big yellow truck as well :)

The only thing impressive about that set is the gong, in my opinion.

It is for real and it takes him 8 hours to setup his kit and about the same to disassemble it. The kit was featured as Kit of the Month in a recent Modern Drummer.

Looks like the complete inventory of an average drum shop, on stands.

Every time I make a mistake or there's something I can't play it's because I don't have a kit like that. :D

"WHY did you build such a Massive Set?

I am a student of sounds. Different sounds project powerful acoustic pressures into
the atmosphere. I use what I have, my God given gifting, talents and a plethora of sounds for Worship and Warfare. As an Agent of Rhythm I built my set to be one of a kind. It features all quality drums and cymbals combining different makes and models. That makes it very unique allowing the combination of sounds to be fresh and innovative. I have always been a pioneer and not a settler.

After people see it and start counting everything, it becomes obvious that this is
the Largest Drum Set in the World. It has over 90 drums and 90 cymbals but boasts having over 550 pieces, if you want to count all the little chills and
frills. Just drums and cymbals, it is a 180 piece kit.

This is not a special event setup but my normal everyday kit. I did not build it to be the largest set in the world…it just is. I have been using over 50 drums on my set since the early 90’s.

I am not using triggers at this time. Looping is cool for sure, but full out flesh and blood playing is where I’m at. I like the digital world and all the cool sounds and rhythms that can be produced today. The electric drums out today are outstanding, I do not always just want to take another person’s sound and make my music. I want to make my sounds and have music flow from that.

Playing acoustic drums have helped to keep my originality engaged and my reference to virgin sounds true and my tuning skills up to par. They breathe more deeply and their true projection is more accurate.

Sounds Waves are so important. It also allows me to be creative and unlimited in
my expression through my instrument. It is too easy to go brain dead in the digital world. You must be an innovator, yet not sacrifice what’s real and what’s right when it comes to live sound!

It allhas its place. But in my heart, I wantto personally strike the drums & move the air to create an original sound and God moments that linger for a lifetime."

"There are also over 160 stands and mounts on the set. It is also accompanied by 235 chimes & bells, 7 blocks & 10 cowbells."
