I recently purchased another kit, 91' Yamaha Rock Tour Custom. Pretty cool drums, fairly rare being made for only 4 years. I think the only kit Yamaha made with the resin coating on the outside of the shell. The kit had lots of drums. So it's got this 26x14 kick.
The thing is sub-sonic. The dynamic range is unreal. Of those with experience in larger kicks, what have you found works best for reeling in the crazy low end while still maintaining the tone of the drum?
I've got a decent selection of heads to choose from, right now I have a clear Remo Emp on the batter and a Smooth White Remo Emp on the front, 4" wide felt strip on the front, otherwise totally wide open.
Totally open to suggestions. Plan on using it for some jazz/improv projects.
26" kick drums....
