Who cannot like Tommy Campbell? This stuff blew my young mind when my first drum teacher kept me for 3 1/2 hours on my first lesson, and fed me the killer stuff. Snake Oil groove as well. It was a killer day. And this album is a great one! Thanks DSOP for reminding me! Both these tracks are HOT!

Thanks for posting! The first time I watched Tommy was on that Zildjian Day tape, many years ago. He is so musical.

First time I heard Tommy was on John McLaughlin's "Belo Horizonte" record. I saw him on that tour and he blew my mind. A total original.

If you listen closely to the Zildjian Days solo, there is composition to his playing. Nice contrast too, between the toms and cymbals. It's one of my favorite solos.

yeah I always been fan of that performance, it was so different, I like his tuning too, kind of timpany ?

Yes! I have this tape and admittedly didn't like Tommy's performance or sound when I first got it back in the late 80's. As I matured, I really started finding things that I enjoyed about it. (4:30) The more I listened the more sense it made. I actually enjoy it much better than Cobham's performance on that tape.

So great to see a Tommy Campbell thread - Just last night I found some old notes from our lessons from years ago. He’s such a great guy - helped me a lot and I always caught a gig when I could.

Nice extended drum solo in this piece:

The whole record is very good.
