http://www.memphisdailynews.com/news/2011/aug/29/gibson-guitar-ceo-speaks-out-about-raids/

“We feel totally abused,” he continued. “We believe the arrogance of federal power is impacting me personally, our company personally and the employees here in Tennessee, and it’s just plain wrong.”

Some people, a lot, would say he got what he deserved...that's this version of America for ya. Lots of busybodies and Fisheries and Wildlife agents with firearms.

Gosh, I just have no idea why the USA GDP numbers are so bad, just can't put my thumb on it...nope, not any clue here, especially in this story, none.

GDP is just a number or something.

Does this mean that they'll go after the drum companies soon too? Doesn't Drum Workshop use some exotic wood? And Ludwig?

The part that floors me is the whole retro aspect of it.

So, if you own a guitar (that you’ve maybe had for decades) that’s made of one of these woods listed in the Lacy Act, you can’t sell it? Ever? That’s crazy!

And if what he’s saying is true, if all the other major makers get wood from India, why isn’t Fender being raided the same way?

Also, (again, if what he’s saying is true) for them to come in S.W.A.T style, guns drawn and all sounds way outta line.

They’re making guitars, not AK-47s or cocaine.

The whole thing is just strange.

people in 3rd wolrd countries suffer so much from corruption, exploitation and violence, that if this story is true indeed, it makes gibson just as bad and cruel as the ones producing cocaine and ak 47´s...

Well, what some people see as exploitation others see as giving people a job, albeit one that is not great...but what do you want, North Korea?

The Justice Department, or whatever agency is running this show, told gibson to send their jobs overseas.

http://www.gibson.com/absolutenm/templates/FeatureTemplatePressRelease.aspx?articleid=1340&zoneid=6

The Federal Department of Justice in Washington, D.C. has suggested that the use of wood from India that is not finished by Indian workers is illegal, not because of U.S. law, but because it is the Justice Department’s interpretation of a law in India. (If the same wood from the same tree was finished by Indian workers, the material would be legal.) This action was taken without the support and consent of the government in India.

There is something really wrong, ugly and bizarre about what is going on here...this is the new America...good job.

Not anymore they don't. This country is run by big business. All politicians suck.
