Jeff Hamilton

Postby willyz » Mon Nov 01, 2010 6:40 pm

I feel like this cat doesn't get talked about enough.

I caught him with his trio at a joint while I was living in Pasadena, and the guy just oozes out with this monster swing... he's a real character and really embodies that "old school" jazz-vibe. I'm listening to his record, Hands On, and it's really killing me at the moment. If you guys haven't familiar with his playing you should be. Such a warm sound and stunning sounding cymbals... love those Fyberskin heads he uses!

Please, if you haven't already, check out some of his Trio's records (there's some fiiiiiine brush playing too!)!

I totally agree - Jeff Hamilton is probably my favorite brush player, and he can swing the crap out of anything!
I've seen a couple of his performances with Diana Krall and it's always an education as well as entertainment.
I haven't picked up any of his trio's stuff but certainly will.

I was at the Drum Pad event and I have spent a while chatting with Jeff after the show. What a great player, a humble performer, and just an inspiration to all drummers (or at least should be! :)

Awesome. I love the tunes onthe drums, who else does that? Jeff oozes swing and his personality shines though too. Thanks for posting, what a musical drummer, just great playing.
