Minnemann w. The Aristocrats

Postby JonasR » Thu Sep 15, 2011 7:00 am

I'm a huge fan of Guthrie Govan. "Erotic Cakes" is a favorite of mine. So naturally I was excited to learn that Govan just released an album with Marco Minnemann and Bryan Beller called The Aristocrats.
I just purchased it, and I think it's great.

It kinda reminds me of Cosmosquad. Allround playing is stellar, and those drums sound unbelievable.
Just a little recommendation..

You should change the title of this thread to something about recommendations cause I want to recommend something too. Jeff Beck's Emotion and Commotion. I might be showing up a little late to this party but I have to say this album is phenomenal. I look at it as a throwback to the 70's Beck fusion albums that I love only done with contemporary production....:)

Is it just me, or does it seem that MM's chops are so ridiculous that he doesn't get enough credit for his groove? Loved the sampler. MM sounds a bit like Carl Palmer with better feel.

Marco can play grooves if he wants to, he just doesn't want to. If you haven't noticed he's a bit of a nut. I'd love to see him get some kind of mainstream gig like with Sting or even the Dream Theater thing would have worked but I think he's just too weird for most guys to hang out with.

Exactly! I didnt listen to the sampler before hand. I just bought the album. Listening to the sampler now, I think it focuses too much on the crazy, technical stuff. MM's groove on this album surprises me in a very positive way.
