The older I get the more and more I love Jimmie's drumming.
The ELEMENTAL recording with Otmaro Jimmy Haslip is some amazing drumming.

Having a chance to study with Chuck (RIP) and him giving me that Drummers of Cuba VHS - I was completely blown away Jimmy and Raul's incredible chops.

I have Jimmy's book and still use it today as a practice guide...

I got called last minute to sub a salsa gig at a taco festival right before Covid happened... I'm relatively competent enough to handle a salsa gig if there's a percussionist on it. The bandleader had done a jazz gig with me, which is my wheel house, and was impressed by my playing, so in talking with him about the tunes he sends me that La Banda video as an example of the kind of "vibe" he wanted. I had to tell him was gonna be mostly cascara and songoish stuff out of me.
