Hi guys,
Recently a friend of mine asked for me to help him set up an e-store. He currently sells a lot cymbals to small music shops and local musicians so
its a smart move to try to take advantage of what the internet has to offer.
I'm a bit out dated in regards to the new technologies used but it seems like "Wordpress" is getting a lot of talk. The thing I haven't figured out yet
is why do I need stuff like Big Cartel, Magento or Storenvy ? Are these the tools used for receiving payment online ? What are the other options out there ?

A webpage you can edit, and use Paypal tools. The other sites I believe are free for 5 or less items, and charge for more.

yeah, use paypal. I've never even heard of anything else..
if I had a niche business I could imagine selling online, but honestly there's no way to compete (price wise) with places like GC.

Not true. There are some companies that sell to independents at prices that let them compete favorably with big box stores. There are several stores with strong online presence that compete. Memphis Drum Shop, Fork's Drum Closet, Drum City/Guitar Land, Drum Center of Portsmuth, LIDC......lots of shops are competeing successfully.

There are quite a few drum shops on there.
Or if you want to get into making an easy site.

You could look into Google Checkout... That's appearing more and more across the internet, and works well whenever I've used it!
