Found this yesterday. Nice overview of Omar's career. No playing clips but great stuff nonetheless.

Re: Omar Hakim interview
Enjoyed it very much!!! Thanks for the link. I can relate to the passion, the dreams he had as a youth... Omar most definitely plays with "passion"... His performance on Bring On The Night Tour has always inspired me... to this day...
And to me... most magical Omar Hakim drumming is on John Scofield's Still Warm... NEVER get tired listening to it..

Damn, one of my main influence, great interview !!!
But still, don't you think that compare to how hip he was during the 80's, he's under the radar now ?
Steve Jordan is still hip, so does Gadd, Vinnie, JR, Marcus Miller, any thought ?

I come from Tain, Vinnie, Omar, Jeff, Fish, Stewart, and many more...

What a player - Omar and a great
interview! Thanks, Clint.
It was the Professional Percussion
Center that he was talking about,
with Frank (midtown). So many of
the greats shopped there, like he
said. Really inspiring.
I am from Queens also but not his
neighborhood. My neighborhood
(Corona) was more Latin, when I
was playing. I wish I could have
connected but I would not trade
my life for anything.
He reminds me of Steve in his
sincerity and his goal to share.
I really learn from players that
communicate like this.
Wonderful!
Thanks, again, Clint!
Regards,
P
PS: I was glad to hear the
interviewer talk about Omar's
'heavier sound' and approach
which I also believe is in him.
I identify it as a more 16th-
note pulse coming through
in everything he does.

Re: Omar Hakim interview
Hey,
I just "discovered" Omar's playing this weekend at the Montreal Drum Fest while he was playing with the Trio Of Oz. It was completely AMAZING! I obviously knew of Omar (who doesn't) but I didn't knew he played that much killer stuff. I thought of him as a groove player more than anything else but I got to know his jazz playing and man, does he play good.
The thing that amazed me the most was how groovy everything he played felt. He had such a flow playing really cool ideas. I'd love to be able to have such grace in my drumming.
I had heard Daft Punk's cd and was amazed by the grooves. He even plays a killer drum solo over a cool loop and he stays so much on the track, so tight. Anyway, I'm gonna keep looking for more stuff by him.

Used to catch that on Arts and Entertainment a lot in the early days of cable...I had no idea what he was doing, but I knew it was awesome. Great show.

Omar killing it!
Re: Omar Hakim interview
So glad to see Omar returning to the spotlight. One of my favorites. He is unlike most drummers that come out of NY from the era of which he was around there. I don't think he comes from the Elvin school of thought. There's nothing laid back about the way he plays. He's sort of out front and very rock and roll in his playing, a ton of energy and bounce. It makes sense that he's had so much success in the pop arena.
“Let's try some of my songs.” Dave Grohl, top sign drummer will be fired.

I absolutely love that...best song from summer 2013 by far...Omar's groove is so joyous, and he clearly enjoys playing still. Great to see Nathan East too.....
There's a great interview with Omar in Issue 5 of this great online mag:

off topic: the Grammys clip shows just how badly celebrities (try to) dance...v. funny.
People whistle the song -they don't whistle your drum part - Ringo Starr
