This is awesome. Considering how long he's been around and how he can be said to be 'old school' it's amazing how hip his playing still is, every bit as cutting edge as the younger fusion players springing up today. Great sounding snare, pinpoint timing, phenomenal chops, superb groove and metric modulation. He's got it all.

No drums no life, know drums know life...

Simon's instructional video goes through his rudimental routine.
He basically sticks to it in that snare solo above. Note how high
his snare is relative to his throne position. Almost no snare angle.

Watching the full show I'm reminded of how this drum style is long gone.
The huge kit. He doesn't go to the snare like most drummers would
with open breaks. He has a strong rock approach it seems.

Gotta give props to pops!
