Found another, stumbled upon it really. Knew from the first measure. Good tunes.

Simon's technique makes the most sense to me if you want to have freedom on the kit. Being able to play open like that would be so liberating. The trouble begins when you have already been playing professionally and have to re-learn all of the stickings...... It would be hard to find the time, but well worth it if one could.

New Protocol work:

Drum solo. That bass drum in the air sounds amazing.

Wow. The Catalyst tune is like excellent fusion. Incredible drum sound. Awesome all around. Simon rules.

Simon has an instantly identifiable style and sound...which is probably the greatest
compliment. Funny about music and artists...that Duncan Browne might as well
have been a Dire Straits record (talk about influence)...the Anderson solo record
was in line with the Simon today up to Protocol. His snare always sounds great.
Just gotta love his non-compromise on the large open sounding kit, keeping
double-bass in a DB pedal world.

What Simon does however is never get so inside his drum solos that it doesn't
communicate to the audience...his fills are big and "drum like" without
becoming too chops oriented dare I say, become boring and a chops fest.
All non-drummers secretly crave a drummer play the classic high to low drum
flurry down the toms at least a few times, and Simon satisfying this appetite.

First wondered who this Simon Phillips guy was on Judas Priest Sin After Sin
LP as a kid. Then he was gone, enter Les Binks era.
