Saw Simon twice this week, once with Hiromi which seriously must be the best band around at the moment, both the individual level of musicianship and overall composition is incredibly high!
Then I saw Simon's clinic, very funny anecdotes and insights into recording and playing. His drums sound incredible!!

Geez...I live about 10 miles from this place! Gonna wander on the grounds one day and tell Simon
I got lost and ask for directions with lunch in my hands! :)

Gotta just love Simon...only he could get away with a mammoth kit playing with a pianist!
Never capitulated to the trends...hears his own voice and sticks to it. His snare ALWAYS
sounds amazing. Seems like the sweetest guy...always in zen mode balance.

All these drummers in LA...need a drum breakfast once a month to gather, eat, and
drink coffee.

New Simon (what a drum kit sounds like from a cheap ass phone video cam...i guess)

Probably posted before but worth again...HUGE influence when I was in high school!
No idea who Simon was at the time, but this and Priest's Hell Bent for Leather w/Les
Binks was on play all year long. Simon's hat fills stood out...nobody did that in hard rock
back then. His playing is so clean looking back...cat was 23 when he recorded this!
So much of his signature style already developed.

Looks like he's using a 22" bass drum on his left and a 24" on his right.

He's worked out some crazy interdependence. He used to do a lot of that with Toto, but it seems like he's refined it even further now.
