Re: John Frusciante > fantastic interview
While I can dig some of the stuff he is saying, and I appreciate his earlier work with the Chilis, I can only wonder what he would have done with all that had he not been a dirty junkie for half his life? I cant take him seriously. He's burnt. Funny how he says he prefers recording to performing. ive never thought he was outstanding as a performer. Kinda sloppy. When you can re-record stuff a hundred times due to being in a drug addled fog, I guess actually performing takes a backseat.
I must give props to the idea of meditating on a shape and keeping it in your mind. Oh and the, uh, smell, of chocolate. haha

He's been sober for many years now. He has his own sound and approach on the guitar. Respect.
Thanks for the link, interesting interview.

Re: John Frusciante > fantastic interview
This is what annoys me. Ever musician could create groundbreaking music on drugs. Frusciante, Aphex Twin, Led Zeppelins, I wonder if they hadn't sniffed would they have created what they did? Try to make music and stay clean, that's an art. This is not to diminish their achievements but I just have a problem with that. It's like an olympic gold medallist on drug enhancement. This is not winning, it's cheating...

I'd say that they managed to create groundbreaking music despite the use of drugs.
Maybe it's more common for the so called genius types to have some kind of a mental disorder(deppressive, manic, whatever) that leads to taking drugs to escape the world.
Just guessing.
