'THE FRANK ZAPPA GUITAR BOOK'
by Steve Vai is very inaccurate. It's been reported
Vinnie's drum parts transcriptions are .60 accurate
at best.

Marc Atkinson's work is very reliable and obviously
written for drummers, whereas Vai's work shows
bias toward non drum transciptions and unorthodox
ways of writing rhythms and polyrhythms.

I haven't been around lately and just dropped in for the first time in a month or so, so this was a surprise. I did those awhile ago for Drum! Vinnie's one of my all-time favorites.

BTW - David was very cool about the mix-up on the Wishful Thinking transcription. He told me he was flattered to be mistaken for Vinnie. I'd gotten a compilation CD of the band and well.... often we have to get the material for those type of articles on our own. The new releases are usually supplied by the record companies.

Truer words were never spoken. (or typed) I have it and it is grossly inaccurate in spots to the point that if Vai had written the words "drums played here" in the staff, he would have been a million more times accurate.

this is a bit surprising to me, considering that Vai was Zappa's transcriber. There was surely some mix up somewhere. OH, wait! I forgot we're talking about a guitarist transcribing drums, silly me, trix are for kids!

I have it too. I bought it when it came out, years ago. It's pretty much useless, except for a couple things here and there.
