These all look great! Thanks for the tips!

However, Does anyone find them a bit fiddly to use on a gig? My band moves really swiftly between the songs, and since the drummer is the only one who hears the click, it's all about getting to that next tempo quickly. I'm in a fear of the wrong button being hit, which seems likely with backbeat pro and tempo's interface... has anyone used these on a gig?

No, just for practice in my case. I use Tama's RW on stage and Alesis SR16 when midi is involved. A Roland or Yamaha brain (or laptop) does the job for midi as well when you need to start sequencers and all that shit. As long as it has midi out in case you prefer to be master. Yamaha's click station is just midi in so someone else needs to start the next song and your metronome adjusts. I have no idea what you are looking for besides the tempo.

So after re-reading all these posts, I decided to try the Backbeat app for iPhone. I got the free one to test it out. I havnt been able to use it with sticks in my hand yet, but wow. Im ready to purchase the full version. Very useful settings which highlight individual subdivisions up to insane tempos. I cannot wait to see what I can do with it.

Interesting stuff guys. I must check out backbeat... It seems well regarded, but I can't see from the pictures how easy it would be to use on a gig...

Yep, I've been using Tempo 2 for my live click for a couple years now. You can rearrange the order of songs in the setlist(s) for each gig. That way you just hit the arrow key to the next song. I love it.

In one tune, the band likes to play the bridge 5 bpm faster so I have one programmed for that where it counts 70-however-many bars and then bumps up (and I hope to god they don't mess up the form, ha).

Backbeat looks cool--never seen the polyrhythm feature--but I think I'd still prefer either of the Tempo apps.

I use Tempo Advance (it's the latest I believe?)

Works great.

What's better about Tempo advance over normal Tempo? I can see lots of features that technicians might really go for (interesting subdivisions and such), but not much that a gigging drummer might benefit from! How much does it cost?

$3

I think they added some new sounds, background capabilities, facebook crap, etc not sure exactly but you can read what the features on the website. non the less I don't believe there is a "normal" Tempo, it just is and was updated to be 'Advanced' http://www.frozenape.com/

I bought Tempo 2 and it updates occasionally, some time ago becoming 'Tempo Advanced'

As a practice tool it blows everything away by miles. Actually I would say as far as any metronome nothing comes close.

Live I use a laptop that has click tracks, sample tracks, etc depends on the gig.

I bought this when I was 15, and I've been using it for 35+ years.

I like it because it really swings!
