Drum bags- Ahead or Protection Racket?

Postby samnmax203 » Tue May 22, 2012 8:55 pm

Ahead (Bigbang) used to distribute Protection Racket bags. Now Kaman distributes them and Ahead has their own line of bags. Has anyone tried the Ahead bags? Are they better/worse/same as the PR bags?

I bought one of those Ahead snares when they first came out and fell in love with the quality/build of the PR bag it came with. I let a friend borrow the snare (who subsequently sold it!), and now I need a new set O gig bags. Thoughts?

PR all the way. Been using them ~10 yrs now and haven't seen anything come close in terms of quality/price point.

I have and Ahead hardware case.. Far better than the PR equivalent.. Much more sturdy and robust.. I haven't used the regular drum cases.. I have PR's for them.. But I hear that the Ahead guys used to work for PR.. The Zipper loos the same, pretty much everything looks the same with the drum bags.. faux sheepskin interior with nylon bag,... However the shape is different. they do a teardrop that accommodates the mounting system of your drums rather than a regular cylinder....the hardware case I have has a plastic back that is much more heavy duty in comparison to the Protection racket one... But either are great for light duty cartage

I love the ahead cases, the way they open fully really accomodates for extra hardware like rims mounts etc.

Yeah i may endorse them, but thats why i endorse them, for me they are VERY GOOD!

Protection Racket cases are my favorite. I've used many different brands but imo PR are the best.
The only thing that bugs me is that they don't have a shoulder strap attached to the bass drum bags.

+1 for Protection Racket. Killer gear for drums and hardware.

The clear plastic pockets on the PR stick bag is a nice well-thought out touch. If the next gen has a thin-film LED or LED strip illuminating the pocket, that would rock.

One thing that bugs me about it is that my sticks fall out way to easily if I open it the wrong way, there is no real indication of which side is up, imo.

The pockets are so big that if you don't have it completely stuffed with sticks, the sticks tend to float a bit.

I like it a lot otherwise. Good construction.
