One of the tastiest drummers I have encountered in a while.. The beat starting at aprox. 6:50 is gold. Clean chops, great sound too.

No offense, but I can't stand the sound there. I do like this a lot, however:
Re: Nat Townsley
Do you have the Nat Townsley Trio record "The Big Idea"? It's full of playing like that... he is definitely a tasty player. Out of all the 'gospel chop' guys I find him one of the most musical and easy to listen to. I also loved that groove at 6:50 in the first video.

Thanks for the recommendation, I'll check it out!
Re: Nat Townsley
I don't find Nat to be a "gospel chops" guy at all.
He's got taste and groove. All those dudes don't and all sound the same.

Re: Nat Townsley
Well, technically Nat Townsley mostly plays gospel music so I guess that makes him a'gospel player. But unlike everything other gospel player he's got a technique that makes his playing 'un' wanky.

I saw Nathaniel Townsley with Zawinul's band years ago. Loved it.

He´s playing with Alejandro Sanz (nailing the parts that Vinnie layed down for the albums)... Killer band.

Love it... Love his interaction with Linley Marthe ... Amazing bass player..
Re: Nat Townsley
Sorry to have been out of the loop for this thread. Nathaniel Townsley is a wonderful player. I've only seen him twice, both times with the Zawinul Syndicate. Power, groove, taste, chops; everything you want. He's a minister in New York (as Zawinul said, "the son and grandson of a minister"), and definitely plays gospel music among other things, but it's not the "gospel chops" thing. Thanks for posting.
