Francesco Paoli, of Fleshgod Apocalypse. Check out his hand technique. Outrageous.

Agree - I find Jarzombek incredibly unique in his style of phrasing.

In terms of technical proficiency and all-around facility, I think Matt Garstka is at the top. He brings Colaiuta drum-god/gospel chops to metal. He just graduated Berklee and is now playing with Animals as Leaders, who probably make the most technically difficult music around. Not for everyone.

I'm pretty sure I was at this show.

This guy is rad.

Les Binks. I had a drumming crush on Unleashed in the East for a long time.

Could not believe when they came out with this record. It was brutal as hell.

Bloody Deen Castronovo! THANK YOU! I was looking for this song but couldn't remember his name... There it is, quite a good tune. Groovy!

(also quite an amazing singer!)

He is a monster player.

Ozzy is barely listenable.

On a deeper listen, their music really bears little resemblance to 'metal', but how many people does the 'player' market reach:

A vintage cut from the 80s thrash metal scene...Gar Samuelson was a monster! Great groove and feel-not surprising, considering that he was a fusion drummer who was heavily influenced by Billy Cobham and Lenny White:

Another, more famous heavy rock/fusion-influenced player who I think qualifies as "metal" in some respects:

Virg has done a few metal records. I don't care for most of them, but a few tracks are worth listening to:

I've been looking up to this guy for a very long time. I like his ideas
