Must admit I haven't tried these particular snakes, but I've gotten a ton of stuff from monoprice over the years and haven't had an issue yet .. maybe I've been lucky? With XLR cables in general being handy with a soldering iron is handy..... :)

Being able to repair faulty cables is one thing. Having the time to do it is another. I picked up these recently: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0002E1P30/

Monster makes some reliable cables too.

These were used in this video for overheads..

I prefer my Neuman Km 184's But for the money you can't go wrong with something like this.. These sound to my ears like more expensive AKG's. Almost like brighter 451's... They won't have the detail. but the sound characteristics are close... It's amazing what you can get for very little money these days mic wise... I remember when the best deal was Apex large condensor mics for $250 Now those same type mics are less than $100

I totally would if they had it for android.. Or even P.C. I would have preferred the Erskine series as it's much better in every way.. Except I don't own any apple products except for a ipod touch that has an outdated OS.. I can't get the new stuff to work on it..

Back to mikes.

I would recommend sm57 for snare top and bottom, cause they're cheap, workable and durable.
I you're willing to spend a bit more I can really recommend the Cad Equitek e-100 on snare (and bass drum strangely enough!) You can find these for around 150-200 on ebay.

For toms, I use these http://www.lineaudio.se/CM3.html but I suspect they're not readily available outside of Europe.

This is a great deal for a tom mike set, though http://www.zenproaudio.com/cad-m179-3-pack.aspx
The Cad's are pretty cool mikes (a lot of people swear on them for toms) and with these you can also go from hypercardoid to omni.

For OH I use these http://www.seelectronics.com/se2200a-ii-c-mic , they're all right but a bit shrill in the high end to my ears.

Not a huge fan of the akg d112, but it works, it can be a bitch to place inside the bass drum, especially of you've got a smallish port hole.
