Well, that's the way he plays. Stewart Copeland never played matched (that I've ever seen) and got plenty of power too.

If you look at the physics of traditional grip there is more possibility for rotation on the fulcrum. Also, there are more muscle groups available that can contribute to increased force, so volume is not the issue.

This is a matter of testicle.

Also, can someone put the word "with" between "in" and "Soundgarden" in the title for me?

I've always dreamed of having a thread I created on HOD turn into a heated discussion about Trad vs. Matched!!!! I feel like Steve should give out gold stars when that happens!!! hahaha

I play both- depending on the band but I don't think you can physically get the same volume and sound out of a snare from trad as you can matched (using the moeller stuff)

And Deep_FRieD, You're picky about the title!!! hahaha

hahahaha. Well I don't think anyone would argue the range of motion is limited vs. matched grip. And you have to be very skilled and diligent to get "blasting" power with trad and not "dig" in.....Of course that's my opinion....
