Dennis is not off in that Stern clip. He's doing something he's done for years, taking it out. It takes some strong aural chops not to get lost listening to him and holding one's place in the form. Not everyone can do that.

I personally thought the vamp on guitar and bass sounded messy. Dennis picks various notes from the vamp and uses them as reference points in his modulations. He is right on.

That was during Drumworld' s anual drumfest in Holland. No way close to my home. Horacio performed there as well. In the november / december issue there is an interview with Dennis in Dutch drum magazine SLagwerkrant.
