Drumhead did a lengthy interview with him in the last edition. He and Mover went through a bunch of recordings he played on with Zevon etc.
I love his playing and value it highy, some of those fills are so slick, and coupled with a heavy groove. He is one of my idols.
Here are the tracks they discussed, some really nice playing!
This one is nice, really punchy.
Interesting story behind his recording with Aretha...
He said this was at a low point...it being 1979, you can guess. Crazy groove.
Double drumming with Bernard Purdie.
Of course this one...
Oh man, that's loose. Nice story about Rick, Newnark and Gadd...
Syndrums!
Mike Mainieri produced this album...
Boz with a shuffle, he's really hitting it. Great Jeff story here too.
Randy Newman 1977.
Didn't know he produced Roxy and Ferry, but not this album, Avalon. He was uncredited. Love his playing here.
1970 with Al Kooper, really attacking the kit.
And finally, this one is a bit out there, Zappa-esque. Some cool shit on it.

The Peg groove is as epic as Josie...Aja is just stupid influential.
This groove is simple and not overplayed and ALL about feel!
This was the groove Porcaro made a loop of and listened to
on repeat.
Keep in mind this guy did the music for the TV show Everybody Loves Raymond.
Is there another session drummer that took the musical helm of a TV show before
that was a huge hit for nine years?

So much good stuff on youtube.
Like his brother, he's been around the biggest names and still was able to put his own personality and stamp on the music. Pretty incredible.

If I was a rap dude I would sample that snare drum pop from note one! YUMMMY.
That song has a similar feel to this 70's gem (magical era);
(I know...Marotta thread, but it just don't get better brothas!)

Marotta, Gadd or Guerin? I believe that's Gadd, but it sounds like it could by any of those three.
Maybe that's what Buddy was bitching about when he said "every drummer sounds the same dammit!".gif)

He and Gadd played together on the majority of the tracks of John Tropea's first four albums:
Tropea, Short Trip to Space, To Touch You Again, and Live at Mikell's.
I think they sound great together:
