Cool interview from 88!

WOW...this was a gem! One of the most personal interviews from Zappa to Gino and details
of recordings. Art of the interview to draw out details and get into the raw, allow VC to
relax and blow. Draw out all of that experience he probably thinks is boring we all cling to.

Two videos of playing from this clinic was great. Wonder if this was before or after the clinic.
It must be very weird for VC to know he can meet a fan who has devoured these interviews
and be connected to stuff he said 25 years ago like it was yesterday...try to connect with him
by sharing his thoughts only for him to think or say, "Really dude...get a life!" lol

I mean, that interview was in a Walkman all these years laying around on cassette. Wonder if
VC ever listens to them. 1988...a world where you could post an interview for the world to hear
was a distant dream few even had.

Of course...one must ask, "What ELSE is laying on the shelf somewhere?"

Thing is, there really isn't much current stuff. Written interviews for sure, but anyone who's done a few of those themselves know how that goes. We need an I'd Hit That podcast with uncle Vincent. 3,5 hours.

I wonder if the Drumeo guys even have the balls to ask.

WHOEVER gets the honor better do their homework! Nothing worse than
starting over from the beginning like a sad version of Groundhog Day!
When will someone say, "So, Vinnie (Dave, Steve...), what's on your mind
these days? What would you like to talk about? For these cats over 40,
we all heard their life story outlines...let's get into those studio sessions,
details, passions, etc. Get off drums, fine! This idea that we must stick
to drums, stick sizes, head choices...boring. You can list that on a spec
sheet. HOW you phrase a question can be the difference of communicating
dignity or stupidity. Want stupid? Watch a post game NFL interview!

This 1988 interviewer did a good job. Vinnie loosened up and got into
the Gino session (who doesn't want more details about that), the psychological
challenge after Zappa, finding himself in the session world, taking risks
as a young performer (willing to NOT get the job), his inner confidence and I believe
Zappa knew this young kid was very gifted and talented. A question I would have asked is,
"What are your thoughts on Zappa's ability to recognize talent in young performers?"

We should do a HOD "Ask Vinnie?" thing in here. What are the three questions
you would ask? I'm sure we will get some gems. A good interviewer sets up
his subject by letting them know they can pass on any question.

I want to know about that Joan Rivers gig! How he moved so quickly in and out of
sessions (jingle, movie score, record) all on same day! How he stays motivated
after all these years? Managing and balancing personal life. Dealing with fame and
being a legend (icon).

That's more than three...screw the only 3 questions thing!

Not much has passed by he Vinnie fans in this thread. Much of it is gone, but I think I've managed to save most of it somewhere.

This is from the Legends of jazz Series with Rmsey Lewis, which could probably have been a lot more. They got all the DVDs for $4, $5 and $11 on Amazon.
