This stuff just makes sense. Phrasing a story at its best. I want these actual drums. This is my favorite drum sound of all time. The tom toms kill. His touch really defines his sound. He's a wizard and lets leave it at that. Who plays a 8 and 10 inch drum size for your tom toms above the bass drum!? Never seen that shit before back in the days and to this day. Fucking love this guy!

Agreed Kurtis...those toms just are perfect...his snare is more "boxy" here
which I love...his tight ergonomic set up pre-Freddie I did as well...just
an attack machine. I saw Dave in college w/Chick around this time, had no
clue who he was...not a drop of sweat on his brow after the set.

i know that Vinnie used these sizes for like a year if that. Dave did it first. Vinnie is just a copy cat.
Re: DAVE WECKL - The thread about Dave
Actualy, "Electric Outlet", John Scofied's album with Steve Jordan on drums, has been released in 1984, and Steve plays a 8" tom on it, I believe, and I think that DW was not "born" yet ?
Well, I'm sure everybody in NYC knew Dave of course, and as M. Camilo "Why Not" has been released in 85, we know that DW was using those small size already, and surely before those years, anyway, who cares !!!

Re: DAVE WECKL - The thread about Dave
I bought a big Gretsch kit in 1982 that had toms in sizes 8, 10, 12, 13, 14, and 16. When I did pick up gigs in town, I would only bring the 8 and 10 toms with a 14 floor. Sometimes I even substituted a 12" roto-tom for the floor tom. Bands would usually look at my set and think WTF?, but once they heard it, they loved it and probably got a kick out of it. I wasn't doing it to get any special sound or anything though. I was just trying to make my load-in and load-out easier.
So, Dave was probably copying ME...

The Modern Drum Shop in NYC used to make great custom drums. One of their common kits on display had kick mounted 8x8 & 8x10 - on a 16 or 18, and a 13x13 floor tom.
