"He is super relaxed."
I thot the same...even more than usual...age is part of this...
he's just older and it shows in that clip...part of the dignity
of drumming into your 70s...where Virgil will be interests
me most with his super aggressive style... Tommy Aldridge
still hits like he was 25...the rock drummer was the great
experiment and we are now witnessing the results of this style.
How many are still around and can play w/o injury?
How many had to make significant grip adjustments?
The amount of motion a wrist takes over a career is
astounding when you think about it.
For the past month I have dug knee deep into grip
methods...fascinating learning experience.

Very relaxed, and I love the space he leaves for the percussion, and Chick's keyboard run at 1:20.
The ultimate confidence to play simply when it's required to serve the music best.
I hope all these guys are around for a long time to come... (Gadd, Vinne, Herbie, Chick, etc...) They're national treasures.

Been around forever...saw this it seems so long ago and Steve is still very relevant!
This one seems overlooked, but one of the all time great grooves!
Introduced the Mozambique Gadd version to pop music and drummers
Polished version

Re: Mr. Gadd
How would you categorize this particular style of jazz?
Recommended artists, titles??
It might be my favorite...this was fabulous! Could listen
to Jackson hit them low notes all night...Petrucciani
has such a warm style...Gadd's brush work is so musical
like everything else he plays
