I'm a big Sean Rickman fan. I especially love his control and expressiveness at low dynamic levels. Blows my mind.

I asked if he hits hard ?
He told me not at all, and doesn't like that, pretty rare for an US drummer. :-)
I come from Tain, Vinnie, Omar, Jeff, Fish, Stewart, and many more...

I don't' hear any personality, that would let me know who he was if I closed my eyes.
The open-ringing un-tuned snare bugs the heck out of me and his left-hand trad grip technique is un-schooled,
similar to Copeland's except for the crucial powerful backbeat that made all the difference.

Similar to Robin Dimaggio, Russ Miller, Gregg Bissonnette and others, he has great skills but (TO ME) very little personality.

I would suggest that it's impossible to know who a drummer is, or his drumming personality, with your eyes closed unless you are very familiar with that drummer's style. In my opinion, SR has amazing timing, feel, grove and chops. But, I've only heard and seen him on YouTube. Not enough (for me, at least), to recognize his drumming only by listening to it. Just a thought.

Also, I don't know how schooled he is, but, his father is legendary guitarist/bassist, Phil Upchurch. Pretty good pedigree.

I too love Sean Rickman... Dapp Theory's "Yall Just Don't Know" is a very good reference... Check out these track previews 2, 3, 8, 10. Bassist Rich Brown is super solid on this too...
