No, not at all. It's all him.

I really like that he's doing this - I like listening to what he has to say.
I'm curious as to his intentions. I mean, is he trying to teach or just be entertaining? Just tell stories and if someone learns something then so be it kind of thing?

Vinnie's taking the Gestalt approach to analysis by looking at the whole.
I think he is throwing out questions or ideas of things he has had to deal with, and/or things he has thought about in terms of being who we are as individuals. "Where ever you go, there you are". "You can't escape yourself".
Vinnie says it's now a "McWorld" where so many people are afraid to be themselves because they don't trust or love themselves enough. And this speaks volumes about the society we now live in.

I like it he says you either get funk or don't. You can't explain it in writing. Also, that Elvin Jones' solos are probably not meant to be written out. Sometimes we miss the point by analyzing too much. Some things just need to be heard or felt. This is my interpretation of what Vinnie has said so far in these 2 introductory podcasts. We are blessed to be able to get a little insight into his inner world and how he navigates.

Grazie mille Sergio!!

I missed the YT version so no description to confirm venue. Do you know where it was taken?

This is one of the most intense solo I've heard/seen Vinnie play!!!! I highly suspect this was recorded at the 1998 Montreal Drum Fest. Just before going on Stage, he had just learned the passing of his friend Kenny Kirkland. I was there and to me that whole show with Randy Waldman and Dave Carpenter remains THE top Music-Drum-Experience I've ever witnessed... HE WAS ON FIRE just like he is on this clip....

Wow, I've been curious to see that Montreal performance for so long. Is there a way to see parts 2-3-4?

Thank you Sergio.
