In my old saxophone playing days I listened a lot to David Sanborn. Steve was all over his stuff and even as a kid I had this thing where I was sure I would know it was him playing just from the sound of the hi-hats.

Thanks so much for this, Paul. I really appreciate seeing these two great minds in conversation together with such class, dignity, mutual respect and humility - such rare qualities by and large today.

I’ve been enjoying listening to Mr Gadd more than ever this year for a variety of reasons that are too long to go into here. I hope it’ll suffice to say that I think he’s an absolute musical genius, and that such genius is evinced maybe nowhere more than on his performance on Kate Bush’s masterpiece ‘Misty’ from her 2011 release, 50 Words for Snow. I’ve embedded the Spotify link here for you if you have an account there. If you’re not on Spotify, I highly recommend seeking it out via whatever means are at your disposal. It’s absolutely perfect musicianship from Gadd, Bush, and the whole ensemble:

Fun video (over an hour long). Steve is really comfortable here and is having fun while being home during the Covid lockdown period. Jokin around like crazy.
