probably too late, but here is my take.
First my main ride is a 70's era 21 A. The story is that I acquired it on ebay years ago and since have repeated the process several times with much success. Ebay is the greatest USED cymbal store on the planet. It has an unlimited length of time on its return policy and you might even get a couple $$ more than you paid for it! If you buy a used cymbal on ebay you can get the sucker home and test it with your other cymbals present. Having my others cymbals present is key to determining if a cymbal is truly what I am looking for. If the cymbal is not your cup of tea, re-sell it back on ebay and a get your money back to repeat the process. Not only is this a great way to get cymbals, but the selection on ebay is as close to unlimited as it gets. Black Labal 602s, 60's and 70's As, 80 Ks... whatever you are looking for it is likely availalble.

While it’s not as good as going to a brick and mortar store with current cymbals in tow to find a new match, it goes a real long way towards at least knowing exactly how a potential cymbal sounds.

With so many models from so many manufacturers, you will never find a store that has all of them in stock. Online sound samples and ordering are the only choice sometimes.

I'm loving my 20" K Dark Ride. I've been using it for everything...Classic Rock band, Blues and Funk bands and Jazz Organ Trio. On the Organ Trio recording I did recently that ride just spoke so beautifully. I was intending on bringing a bag with several other rides to the session but got lazy when the weather turned bad and didn't want to carry another bag. I'm glad I only had the one ride since it was able to work for everything. It has the articulation of the regular brilliant K Custom but with a nice wash that never gets out of hand and it's versatile for all styles of music.

20" K Ride - more ping than wash ratio - this was my go to ride for a long time - great pitch, feel and versatile - awesome bell too.
20" K Custom Medium Ride - ping and wash are closer than regular K ride - I like this better than K ride now - this crashes much better than the regular K ride, but you sacrifice some of the stick for it - I think it's more versatile than the regular K too. Works well for me in a variety of genres and volumes.

21" K Custom Special Dry Ride is great, but didn't work for me in louder situations - most clubs don't have overheads for drummers - so the cymbal needs to be able to cut if I'm playing in an amplified, electric setting.

22" K Dark Medium Ride is a great ride too, but was too washy for me - it was like it had this loud white noise always going on under the stick - most Zildjian 22s are too washy for me or pitch isn't what I hear if it's a drier ride. I've tried several 22s, but I always go back to 20s. Finally accepted it. They just feel right.

Did you ever mess with putting some gaff tape on the underside? Its not ideal but it will control unwanted wash.
