I wish I was more into Keith. I'm just not. And Zach from 10+ years ago with Wayne has more ideas, has a wider dynamic range, and has a broader vocabulary. It doesn't take take too long for Keith to start Repeating himself. And if you don't like that one thing he has than that's it I guess.

For some odd reason, all the songs sound exactly the same to me.

Zach's playing with Wayne was great- I'd love too see them play together again as Zach as his "stumbling down the stairs" sort of vibe he's going with now may work really well with Wayne's grid.

Regarding Keith- the big thing for me is that he's got his own vibe and nobody can sound quite like him for all of the above sort of reasons. That being said, yes he does utitilize his bag of tricks a lot and I often wonder if he is almost held back by his style and technique...

Yup. Same tonality, same groove, same tempo.... I need to hear beautiful chord progressions and melody, not just angular randomness, or I get bored very quickly.

Long to be loose is amazing. Zacks playing is so inspiring. That album put him on the map officially. They played off each other so well. Great conversation between all musicians on that album.

Steve hit it on the nose with Keith. Same bag of tricks over and over. Gets a tad stale after a while. He's got his own thing that's for sure. Saw Keith with sting many moons back and he killed the gig.

I saw them here in Nashville recently and really enjoyed it. Nate played double drums with Keith on some stuff, while wearing and playing his bass at the same time. That was pretty remarkable. Keith's bass drum sounded awesome, but I wasn't blown away by the toms. I'm generally a fan of Carlock's playing, but think that with all the videos of him at our fingertips, we've become a little blase' (blah-zae) about him. And, that's to be expected, for sure. But, as much as I dug the show and his playing for the most part, he pulled out that lick (you know the one) on pretty much EVERY song, and every time he soloed. It was actually a little distracting to me, but I don't think my guitar player friends that I was with cared or even noticed, so...
He does hit the shit out of the drums, which I quite like, and his 1&3, 2&4 shit is pretty effing deep.

Wayne is great, but the last couple albums don't move me like the first 3. Long to be Loose is a great studio album. Signals, with Dennis Chambers, is really good, too:
