Could be coincidence of course, either guy would be an interesting choice.
Though I couldn't see either of those guys making any long term commitment.

Yeah, I'm fairly certain that the new cat will have some sort of contract with the band... he'll be a hired gun, but will be "in the band." I'm sure it's only a matter of time before Portnoy and the rest of them put aside all the drama, I mean, they've been playing together for 25 years...

I thought it was going to be John Macaluso. Shall we start a betting pool?

On top of the obvious challenge of replacing Portnoy is the great challenge of running the band. Portnoy did it 24/7 for the last 25 years...
I do think the replacement will be Mangini, but have no reason for saying so. My bets on Mangini...

Mike Mangini is the new drummer.

What's your source? The rumours have been strong about Mike Mangini due to him dropping his Berklee schedule and his site being down for a while, but no confirmation from DT camp.

Eddie Trunk posted it on twitter, and Blabbermouth and others picked it up and ran with it.
If it turns out to be true, they have found a good match and then some. He's got the the chops, the
persona and the ability to add more exciting fills to existing material when they perform live.
I'd say Mangini would be a great call to take over from Portnoy.

Good God, why can't they announce the new guy already and put this silly drama to rest? Way to kill excitement in your fanbase. I know many who don't even care anymore.
